Pocket jacks are great. I think many players struggle with hands that are great pre-flop and suddenly become bad post-flop. They don’t find it easy to get away from them.

The guy mucked. You technically didn’t fold. He technically did fold. You verbally conceded the hand and showed your cards. That is certainly common and it certainly isn’t a fold. He screwed up.

If I was the guy, I probably would’ve gotten up from the table and gone to take a nap. He must have been really out of it to have done something like that (or just overexcited to take down a big pot).

It’s certainly awkward, but you shouldn’t feel bad about it. You technically won the hand.

It’s cool that the guy recognized his mistake and took it so well.

Seriously, there’s nothing you can do except take the pot. There’s no reason to give the guy anything, it’s possibly he was angling you.

I *might* buy him a beer to keep him around. A pale ale of some sort, to match his face.

Yeah, you’ll sometimes get players who will call with any 2 cards. Some can play well with any 2 cards, others can not, and some just get lucky on the flop.

Depending on who is in on a hand, there are times where you can play with any 2 cards. I will sometimes even get in with any 2 cards knowing I can represent any 2 cards. This of course all depends on who is at your table and how they are playing.
